37, day nineteen.
This week on the prompt site I wrote for last week (for the first time), the prompt is to write a short piece with the words “The first time I saw.” I choose in this first part of my post to use just one-sound words as well, just like the prompt says to do, to keep on theme. I like theme. Theme is good. I will not lie. My muse, such as it is, tempts me to make this part long, to see if I can. This is not the first time I have done it, though. I did it when I heard them do it on a show. It is not as hard as it seems. It gets less and less hard as you go. No time to waste!
Here is my piece. I wrote ten or more of these. It is hard, but they are short, and I have time. This is the one I like the best:
The first time I saw a milk jar I stabbed it twelve times with a knife. I could not help it. Things are less bad now. I have a room of my own. The cows can’t get me.

Thanks! The constraint of the prompt made it comparatively easy to find a voice, so I appreciate that.
The own room is probably more to protect her from herself than the cows, but at least it provides a feeling of safety.
That’s very interesting that you assumed the speaker was female. I have been writing pretty much exclusively female protagonists these days, but I’m glad to see some evidence that it is working.
I read it again and I don’t know how I came to that conclusion because there really aren’t any gender cues. Interesting…

Stabbing milk cartons is better than stabbing cows or other people or yourself so, from that point of view, good for you for finding a way to channel your rage/fear. If this is really reflective of who you are then, good luck dealing with life. Sometimes, things that appear “normal” to others can represent triggers to some. However, if you are actually writing in the voice of someone haunted by bovine demons then, well done because this all sounds very believable.

I like the impossibility (?) of stabbing a jar with a knife. That contract opens up worlds of possibility.
I originally had “jug,” but I thought jar was more interesting. I do wonder how many people noticed.
